Home PageThis was our first full day of the trip in Newfoundland and was highlighted by taking the celebrated Western Brook Pond boat tour. The scenery was magnificent and will remain one of the highlights of the trip.
A description of the first full day's events which included:
We began the day with a drive out to the Western Brook Pond, about 20 minutes away from our B&B. Once parked, there was a walk of about 3 kilometres to the pond itself where we purchased our tickets for the boat ride. There were lots of other tourists, and the boats were full. The scenery was spectacular. On the boat trip there was a surprise when a young man proposed to his girlfriend on the boat. Apparently this is the second time that this has happened on such a boat ride.
After Western Brook Pond, we stopped in at Lobster Cove Lighthouse and toured the display there, and read of the history of the family that looked after the lighthouse - over almost four decades! There was a very nice path down by the ocean as well, and it was a very interesting and beautiful spot.
For dinner, the restaurant we had hoped to dine at was 'closed for the season' so we ate, at a local's suggestion, Earl's Restaurant, 'the best place in town'. Fish and chips was the order of the day, along with some 'IceBerg' beer.
